Buyer in distress.

Here is the situation:

This was my first time making a purchase from ebay and the seller is in US, an overseas seller. I made 2-3 bids on the item and ends off i am the highest bidder tentatively as the listing still have 3 days till it ends. However, seller send me a  message via ebay to ask for my email saying if i want a pp invoice, he could send it to me. I wasn't sure what the consequence is by doing that. I provided him with my email linked to both my ebay and paypal account. Soon, i received the paypal invoice and paid it off instantly using Paypal. The listing is still active on ebay even thou i had effected payment to the seller and Paypal reflect as payment completed. Currently my bid is still the highest.

Now, after doing some research online, i discovered that i had (1) purchased the item OUTSIDE ebay which void me of the Ebay buyer protection. (2) I am an unverified buyer and he is an unverified seller status with Paypal.

My only recourse left is with American Express with whom i holds a platinum card. I am considering filing a chargeback with American Express for this purchase IF the graphic card never arrive or differ from what is described on the ebay listing "NEW".

Have anyone here had any experience filing chargeback with American Express and managed to retrieve back the full purchase amount? Also, given that i am aware of the situation i am in now, should i file for a chargeback now or wait till whether the goods arrive?

I paid USD700.00 for a graphic card just today on ebay using my Paypal account funded using my American express card.

As you have learned the hard way, never do a deal outside of the system.  Your only option is to work thru your credit card issuer.
