I was short on the prepaid postage so I have to pay a little extra at the post office.
They had to assign a dirrerent tracking number.
I entered this in PayPal but I keep getting email saying the package can not be tracked because they are referencing the deleted trackiing number the sstem assigned when I printed the shipping label.I have emailed the buyer with the new tracking number but how can I stop the emails from ebay

@jwbradle You can add a 2nd tracking number on the Sold item in eBay ... I would do this as soon as possible.
In the future you can also Void the original label and print a whole new one. You will get the full credit for the Voided label back in your PayPal account in about 2 weeks.

as he took it to the post office,it is accepted with added postage,he cannot come home and void the label,it would not work.
he would have to rip the label off the package right there at the post offie ,pay counter rate and come home and void that label.

When you try to track on USPS.com what results do you get for each of the 2 tracking numbers?
What sevice did you use, Priority or First Class? Did the class change when you paid at the counter?
I would have expected a surchage payment to keep the same tracking number, that is, unless the rate class was changed.
If the rate class changes then the post office would use your previous payment as credit to create a new label. The old label would still be active as it was used for credit, so I can't be voided.

Your point is a very valid one where the rate is concerned ... at the counter they can NOT give online discount rates if they have to adjust the postage. If the item is First Class obviously the cost to add is not too bad. BUT, if it happens to be a coast to coast Priority Mail package and you go from say 4 lbs to 5 lbs the adder at the couonter can be rather large (yes, this type of thing happened to me). Regardless of whether tracking uploaded to the Sold file the original label can be Voided, a new one added (with online discount of course) and the additional tracking number added to the Sold file which still allows tracking to avoid a shipping defect ... I know, I've done this.

The OP needs to clarify on the rate class.
For example, if the OP used the PayPal (Pitney-Bowes) First class parcel option over 13 oz then it woud be a different class at the counter as the online class is not a counter class. This would mean a new label, but the old one could not be voided as it was used for credit.

I have done exactly what I described ... I left the post office with my package and the original label. THEY can void the scan, try if you doubt. I then Voided the label, printed a new one and took it back to the post office. Absolutely no problem doing it this way. Even if the originally scanned tracking number from the voided label is uploaded (before the voided the scan) a new tracking number can be added to the Sold file. I've done this too with insurance when I decided to add it at the Post Office and they afix an additonal label specific to the insurance so it gets tracked to the Buyer. One each of these and other slightly off the normal path shipments with more than one tracking number have resulted in NO shipping defects that would otherwise affect my Seller Dashboard and all shipments showed tracking to the Buyer's address.
