Paypal is automatically suggesting to others to convert money they send me. How can I disable this?

Hi,

A few months ago Paypal changed its interface. Now, instead of just filling in what currency I am sending, there's also a box of what currency they will recieve. "You send" and "recipient gets".

The problem is that when someone sends me USD, I want USD. When someone sends EUR, I want EUR. Otherwise I am losing 2.5% twice... once when I receive and once when I then want to spend later on a US or EU store online. It's very fristrating, Paypal is basically taking 5% of all money and that's before their usual 2-3% fee, so really they are taking 8% if someone sends me EUR and I want to keep it in EUR.

Is there a way to make Paypal stop suggesting to others that they convert my money to CAD before sending it to me? If I wanted CAD, I'd convert it myself after receiving.

Many thanks for any help...

It should be in your account, you can specify what currencies you accept and if you want them converted to your local currency,

these currencies will then have their own balance

is CAD your local currency?are you in Canada and your PAypal account is a Canadian account?

if you sell on Canadian website and say it is Ebay Canada, all prices are quoted in Canadian dollars, theyhave to pay you Canadian dollars, conversion fee is on them,I think it is now 3%(not 2 1/2 since March 29).

if you sell on Ebay -USA,then prices are in US $,when they pay you in US $,and if you do not specify you will accept US$ and keep them in US $,then Paypal would have to convert for you, since your account local currency is Canadian.

and you pay 3% conversion fee.

CAD is my local currency, but I've set my account as USD for primary. Doesn't seem to help.

I'm not using ebay or anything, there's no website I'm simply asking people to log in and send money to my email address. When they do that, it shows a page with "you send" and "recipient gets", the latter of which defaults to CAD, and unless they specifically go and change it, my money gets converted against my will.

For example, today someone was to send me 20 euro, and on their end paypal automatically said "recipient gets" 27.32cad which is less than the 20 euro I was owed... they can change that, but nobody knows you are supposed to change that. It's not obvious that there's a fee, and it looks like I actually want CAD. I don't. Before the interface changed, I would just directly get 20 euro which is what I want, I don't want anything to be converted unless I do it myself...

I can just start telling people to be careful of that, but surely there's a way to disable that from happening in the first place?
