How do I know if I'm dealing with a crook?

I'm selling a motorcycle on Craig's List. The man that want it says he lives in NC. He wants to pay on pay pal. How does this work and how can we both be protected. Me being the seller and him as a buyer?

He's a crook

First, by advertising a motorcycle on Craig's list you are inviting scammers.

Second, he's offering to pay with PayPal.  He knows he will get a refund and keep the motorcyle.

Just reply back to the potential customer that you will ONLY ACCEPT CASH.  Thats the only way to protect yourself.

Have to agree. No reason he can't send you a check or get a cash advance from his card. Ask for his ID and ssn and to meet at a bank, then you'll do the transfer - see how fast he ghosts.
