Can a customer pay on my website with mastercard or visa without having a paypal account?

My website is powered by prestashop. I added the paypal module that allows payment with all credit and debit cards. But when a customer is choosing to pay with visa or mastercard, they are asked to either log in to their paypal account or sign up for a new one. Is there a way to pay with visa or mastercard without having a paypal account?

You may want to follow-up with PrestaShop - they have a community forum and support.   (Things can sometimes work differently with 3 party carts.)

Yes, customers can pay without having to have a PayPal Account.

Assuming you have a US PayPal Account there's a setting in your Account Profile that should be enabled.  For example, if you have a US PayPal Business Account, in your Account Profile, go to My Selling Tools, look for Website preferences, click on "Update", you should be on the Website Payment Preferences page, scroll down to PayPal Account Optional and make sure that the radio button for "On" is selected.

When the "account optional" feature is turned on, customers don't need a PayPal account.  They use an alternate checkout and have the option to sign up for a PayPal account afterward.  Customers with PayPal accounts still log in to their PayPal accounts to check out.  This feature is available for Buy Now buttons, Donations, and shopping carts.

What if my account is not a US account?

As I'm only familiar with US Account Profiles, I don't know if you have that option or not - what country do you reside in ??   Not all countries have the same PayPal features and functions.
