Buyer wants to send Paypal payment for item posted on Craiglist (to be shipped)...Is this safe?

Hi everyone,

I posted an item on Craigslist.  I got an email from someone wanting to buy it, pay through Paypal, then have a shipping company pick it up.  (It is a wheelchair for a child with special needs, so it is pretty heavy).

My question is, should I do this transaction? Is it safe for me.  If so, what steps do I follow to make sure I am covered ?

Any advice is sooo appreciated.

Thanks

Sell locally for cash - it's the safest method.

If you want to protect yourself, as the seller, you send the buyer an invoice - the buyer pays, you get the money and then ship the item.   If you can't ship the item via USPS or UPS, that's a problem.   If the item has to be picked up by the buyer, a 3rd party service or you deliver it in person - you have no Seller Protection.   Never let the buyer simply send you money - that's the best way to loose both your item and money.
