Not to scare you but, often PayPal and Craig's List is not the best of combinations. If you want to protect yourself (at least the best you can), you need to send the buyer an invoice for the sale. The item you're selling must be something you can ship, track and insure if applicable. If it's value is $250 or more, you'll also need delivery signature confirmation.
If you want to allow your buyer to pay the invoice using a credit card, you will need with a Premier or Business Account as Personal Accounts do not have that feature. Suggest a Premier Account if you're not a registed business.
Suggest not providing the buyer with your PayPal email address, if they ask for it up front, there's a good chance you're going to get scammed. If the buyer wants to make special delivery arrangements, there's another red flag. And if the buyer offers you more money than you're asking - walk away as it's a scam.
Last 2 tips, ensure that you have taken the time to "verify" your PayPal Account. Finally, take some more time and read thru the User Agreement, note the section, Protection for Sellers.
