Modifying a subscription with an instant payment

Hello,

I would like to know if it is possible to modify a subscription of a user, with adding an instant payment to it ?

Quick and simple example :

User have subscribed for "$30 a month", the 1rst January. He would like to go with a "$60 a month" subscription the 15th January.

Now I can allow him to do the modification, but is there a way to make him pay the difference at the moment of the change ?

Considering there is 15 days left on the month of January, I would like him to pay $60 / 2 = $30, then he will pay automatiquely $60 the 1rst February, March, etc.

Hope this option exists, because I have found nothing in the API documentation.

Currently my users have to wait 15 days before he can "really" have the "$60 a month" subscription. Most of the users don't understand that at all.

Any enlightment will be much appreciated

The most you can change a subscription by is 20%, so even if you tried to adjust the existing subscription you could not change it from $30 a month to $60 a month. One of my subscribers wanted to change his by 50% so I told him to try calling PP and see if he could do it, because I sure couldn't.

He said after being on the phone with PPCS for about 30 minutes they finally got it done... but his next payment (and the one after that) were both at the original amount.

I will guarantee you can't do what you want, short of sending an invoice to the customer for the difference, and then cancelling the existing subscription and having him set up a new one at the higher amount.

Hello and thanks for your reply,

I'm not sure what are you telling about the subscr limits, I'm using PP subscr for +3 years, with +400 customers, and never heard about this.

I'm selling "licences", and many of my customers are already changing their number of licences from 1 to 5, or maybe 10 licences. That's a way more than +50% into the price anyways.

Be aware that when the customer is changing his plan, the number and name of the object is changing too.

Anyways, cancelling the current subscription and creating a new one is clearly off topic for me. If the customer has paid his subscription, it's clearly impossible for me to tell him to "manually cancel his subscription", then "recreate a new subscription".

Cancelling a subscription is always a pain to do, and there is as far as I know no way to do it automatiquely. Not suitable in a business with many customers. And not professionnal anyways.

I was told the most I could change a subscription by (me personally) was 20%, but I expect the customer can change it by more if he wanted to.

Whenever I go into Paypal and change the amount of the subscription if I even try to change it by more than 20% I get the error message. So that is why I made my statement. If you have been doing that I would love to hear how you do it. I have about 60 monthly subscribers using Paypal (and another 200 using ACH or mailed checks) and changing their payments is always a PITA.

You may not really be able to do a 1/2 month adjustment without sending a PP invoice to the customer for the 1/2 month difference.

Now I understand better, infact I never modify the subscription of my customers by myself, they are doing it by themselves. I was not aware I can modify a subscription without the customer "permission"

This is very annoying to can't adjust a subscription with an instant payment included in it. It's a pain to have the customer adjust his subscription, then having him to make an instant payment...

Can't believe PayPal never thought about this kind of case !
