So I was very much anticipating the lift of foreign transaction fees on the Paypal Cashback Mastercard as I make a lot of foreign purchases. I usually just went through paypal to use the card and used their exchange rate instead of paying the fee to keep my statement cleaner. However, I have tried making two purchases via a foreign website only to get declined with the following message: "The authentication information you provided does not match our records for this MasterCard® card. To ensure the highest level of security, this MasterCard card cannot be used to complete this purchase. You will be automatically returned to the online store so that you may enter another form of payment, or click Continue to proceed now." I can tell you 100% that everything was entered correct. The issue appears to happen when it would normally prompt a 3D Secure Code screen. I have looked into getting a 3D Secure Code for the card so I can stop running into this roadblock but it looks like Synchrony Bank/Paypal does not offer this for the card. Atleast when I looked through the Mastercard Secure Code database of banks that do. Has anyone else had any issue with this? I mean whats the point of lifting foreign transaction fee if I can't even use the card online? I am then forced to use it through paypal and use their ridiculous 3% upcharged exchange rate.
