Hi kimcolumbus,
Thanks for reaching out to us here, and welcome to the community!
That is a good question. Doing this would cause your payment to be sent as an eCheck. This is not an instant funding method and may not be accepted as a form of payment by some merchants.
An eCheck is an electronic funds transfer from your bank account to another customer’s PayPal account. It's like writing a check, but you send it electronically.
You can pay with an eCheck even if you don’t have a balance in your PayPal account. Before you complete any transaction, we’ll tell you if eCheck is a payment option under ‘More Funding Options.’ To send an eCheck, just link your bank account to your PayPal account.
Both eChecks and Instant Transfers are ways to pay with your bank account. With an eCheck, the recipient receives the money within 3-5 business days. With an Instant Transfer, the recipient receives the money right away.
You need to have a confirmed U.S. bank account and a back up funding source such as a credit card or debit card registered on your PayPal account to complete an Instant Transfer.
You cannot send an eCheck if the Instant Transfer option is available. eChecks cannot be partially funded by a PayPal balance, the full amount will always be requested from your bank.
I hope this helps!
