Hi Dian Re your post.   " Thanks you for posting your question here in our community.   If you pay through an UK PayPal account there can indeed be fees paid as USD is not a local currency. If you have a card added to your UK PayPal account the currency that we would use is GBP. If you make a payment in USD we will deduct the money from GBP from your card and convert it into USD in order to send the payment. These currencies are probably causing the difference that you see. The best solution would be that when you send the payments and you get the payment overview to choose the option there that you would like the card to exchange the currency for you. This way you will prevent extra fees . So change the currency option in the payment overview just before you agree to the payment.   I hope this information helps." Dian   I have now used the method that you suggested & it does appear to have worked as you said it would. No sign of any add on charges.   Thanks   Cliff ... View more

Hi Dian, Thanks for your reply.   " If you have a card added to your UK PayPal account the currency that we would use is GBP. If you make a payment in USD we will deduct the money from GBP from your card and convert it into USD in order to send the payment "   I think i understand what you are saying, but would you just clarify for me.   UK  Paypal account is in GBP.I had been thinking that that could have something to do with it.   The second sentence is confusing me a bit. From what you have said, this is how i understand it.   I'm making a payment to a sellers website for an item listed in US $,I'm paying for it from my credit card which is in US $.  It appears to me from that second sentence that Paypal are deducting the money from my card ( US $ ) in GBP.To do that there is i imagine a conversion going on.    The money taken from my card in GBP is  then converted back to US $ in order to send the payment.   Is that what is happening ?   If it is i can live with it even though it appears a little odd to me.I'll look at the overview option you mention for any future transactions. ... Thanks for your reply,i contacted customer service by 'phone. He had the figures to hand of course. There is a column headed Paypal on my accounts page at the card suppliers website, against each item is a figure in Pounds.   I asked about this & he used a conversion rate used at the time & came up with figures that i could remember as the dollar figures i had paid at the sellers website. ( i still do not understand why a conversion was used, the items were in US $ & my card is loaded in US$ ) unless it was being converted back to pounds for GBP website ) So he was saying that Paypal had not added anything the prices i'd paid at the checkout point.   Back to square one i guess, haven't been back to query it again at card supplier yet. ... I posted a question but didn't receive any replies.I'll phrase it a different way.   I purchased items that were priced in US $. I paid for them with a prepaid credit card, also in US $.   The prices at checkout were te same as the prices i'd seen on the website,if they had been different i would have asked questions.I completed the transaction & that was it.   I go to my credit card account page & the prices on my statement are slightly higher than the prices i agreed on the sellers website. My credit card supplier tell me that they have not added any fees or charges & say it might be something being added by Paypal.   So,how does the process work exactly.   For instance. At the sellers website i clicked pay using Paypal. The paypal box opens & i choose pay by credit card & enter my details & everything goes through, prices all ok.   They then appear slightly higher on my statement.   So,having paid for them is there a delay & does the sale information go through a process at Paypal, with the possibility of the prices being adjusted or fees added, before arriving at my card suppliers website & by account. ... Fee ? added to cost of item bought in $US with $US

I've purchased items priced in US Dollars with a prepaid credit card loaded with US Dollars. My credit card statement is showing the items with higher prices.   My card supplier tells me that they are not adding anything to the prices & think that Paypal might be adding some kind of fee. They say that a GBP figure is also showing on my statement against each item which suggests GBP are in the mix somewhere.   IT isn't anything they are doing & think it might be something to do with currency conversion at Paypals end.It isn't a large amount, for instance an item costing $19.44 is showing on my statement as $20.72.   It isn't something i was expecting because i was buying something priced in $US & paying in $US.I don't see how a cuirrency conversion would apply.   Could be another type of fee but i can't find anything.   ... I've entered a prepaid credit card,it's been accepted & confirmed.I loaded it with US Dollars, long story but the website seller wouldn't accept the sale because of my UK address but would accept Paypal worldwide, hence,i'm here.   My account is set up with the prepaid card in Dollars.   I tried using it & everything went fine, all i needed to do was click the final payment button, but i panicked  & cancelled the transaction, thinking i might have a problem because it was a prepaid card.   I've em Paypal but haven't heard back yet.   Can anyone confirm that using prepaid credit cards is ok. ...
