A couple years ago, I used to accept a lot of paypal gifts from online friends (in exchange for digital items and whatnot), and as a result paypal disabled my 'gift'/'friends and family' option - it now automatically redirects people to 'goods and services instead' (without showing that it is doing so). I didn't even know this until I went through 8 different customer service reps over several hours, since they sent the warning/notice to a defunct email account, but thats an entirely different matter. I can understand Paypal charging fees for providing digital goods, even if it is to friends. However, it seems incredibly shady that friends sending me money now click on friends and family, see that there will be no fees, yet a fee pops up anyway AFTER the fact, and is only visible to me. There is never any notice that they were transferred to 'goods and services' instead (the option that usually displays that the receiver will pay the fee). Thus, I have to explain to people that *I'm* not lying, PAYPAL is - there actually is a fee even when Paypal stated there would not be any. Anyone else experiencing this? It seems like the legality of this is rather questionable - if they want to add fees that's fine... but NOT if they're going to tell everyone who sends me money that there won't be any fee, then add one anyway. When I claim to my friends that fees really are being added, it comes down to either me or Paypal lying to the person sending me money, and it sure isn't me. Thoughts?
