On the 23rd November, I received an invoice from Paypal saying $50 had been taken from my account by SugarSync. I had not logged into my account for a couple of weeks before this date. I had NEVER paid for anything to do with SugarSync using my PayPal account. On checking my PayPal account i realised that indeed this $50 had been taken from my bank account registered to my PayPal account. On the above date SugarSync successfully ***without any involvement or authorisation from me*** created an annual pre-approved payment for the above amount. I obviously disputed the claim and it has already been reversed (although of course, I will not be able to access the funds until PayPal has released them when they feel like it). I can only assume that SugarSync took a gamble in seeing if my SugarSync account name was the same as my PayPal account name. This is deeply concerning that a third party can take money from my PayPal account without any authorisation from me - and without anyone logging into my account. It is deeply concerning that a company that I have had absolutely no dealings using my PayPal account can setup pre-approved payments without me being involved or made aware. Why did PayPal not notify me to say that a new pre-approved payment had been setup? If PayPal does not restore my confidence in their ability to securely maintain my account details, and my money I will not hesitate to cancel my account.
