I don't know why paypal uses exchange rates less than the quoted bank rates of the day but I sure disagree with their conversion calculation.  Present exchange rate is US to Canadian 1.00763. Case in point.  I get paid by a purchaser in US currency which requires conversion to Canadian.  Paypal's conversion method is to multiply the US amount by the Canadian exchange rate(which is something less than a dollar or 0.9932).  End result I lose the difference between the higher valued US dollar and Canadian.  Presumably Paypal pockets the difference.  This has been my first experience with paypal and it will be the last.  Once bitten-always bitter.  And there seems to be no way for me to question paypal about the experience.  What a bunch of Cr------p!.  BYE BYE PAYPAL ... Re: Question about Debit Cards

I am currently aware of 2 Canadian banks that have Mastercard/Visa debit cards available. The CIBC has a new debit card with the visa logo that can be used to make purchases like any other visa purchase online, and the money comes from your bank account. The other is BMO Bank of Montreal which has a Mastercard travel card that is that you can load from your BMO bank account. This card is $9.95 to set up and good for 3 years. I prefer this option as then if someone were to try to put a charge through that you are not set up for or aware of, it will be declined, and there is no charge to you. I don't have the CIBC card, so I am I can't be 100% that you would face a NSF fee if you don't have the money in your account to cover any attempted charges, as happens in the U.S. with their Visa/Mastercard Debit cards. With the BMO card, their is no transaction fees, or loading fees like a lot of the private label cards out there. There is a fee for withdrawal from ATM's though. ... View more

I have the same issue, I have a verified bank account, but my card will not come in the mail for a few day, as I just opened the bank account. One of the first things I wanted to do was go pay for nextflix again, but it has been a huge hassle. I love netflix, and have had it before, just ran short on funds for a while.   I wend out and got a moneypak card and added $20 to my paypal, as well as getting my bank account verified by paypal, but netflix will still not allow me to sign up without a credit card, there is no option to use the money already on my paypal, or to take from my bank account. This has frustrated me for about 2 days now and I think I might just never get nextflix because the system they have in place will not take my money, and therefore does not deserve to have it.     When you make a payment system that will not let legitimate consumers pay you, then you deserve to have no payments at all. ... From what I understand, Paypal won't transfer funds to a US$ account that is Canadian based. I opened up an RBC $US account even though I already have a TD Canada Trust one. I also opened an RBC Access USA account. Paypal WILL transfer $US funds to the RBC Access USA account since it is an RBC Bank in USA that it is going to.  Then I transfer funds from the RBC Access USA account to my e-savings $US account that is Canadian based. There are no fees on the e-savings account but the RBC Access USA account requires presently $700 balance to prevent charges.  That's what I've done and it worked.  It's a pain but it's the only way to avoid the exchange rate loss, as far as I know. ... not sure what bank of canada site some of these members are checking but when i go to a canadian bank to purchase US dollars the rate of echange may  not be what the market says but it still is at par or slightly better. Let's face it this company and ebay are US companies and cannot bring themselves to admit that they are not as strong as other countries in the world and will continue to live in this dream world. i am going to go into my ebay listings and at least raise the prices so that i get what i want for my items in Canadian Funds which still should be a good deal for the US buyer as they will get the lower rate from their bank. Then once my listing on completed i will wait for ebay and paypal to wake up and at least come close with their conversions before i list again   Ebay and Paypal .ca  should never let this type of ripoff happen but then again they are owned by Ebay and paypal.com     ... Well, here's the problem I think.  You're probably talking about U.S. Account in a Canadian bank which isn't a U.S. bank account, it's merely a Canadian bank account using U.S. funds...  so still another country's bank system.     What I would suggest is that you use RBC's system instead to eliminate the charge.  If you go to RBC (and no, I don't work for them or even have one their accounts yet, I just did the research) you can open an account at one of their actual American banks (they own a string of 430 American banks under the RBC name -- RBC U.S.A.) right from Canada as long as you have a Canadian account as well at their Canadian bank.  You can then have the money from Paypal deposited to the actual American bank account (which shouldn't cost you to do that) and when you log onto your RBC online banking page, you get to manage both your American account and Canadian accounts right from there (including no-cost transfers from your U.S. account to your Canadian account.)  You can also do anything with the U.S. account that you could do with any other since it is a TRUE American bank account and not just a Canadian bank account with U.S. funds.    Hope this helps! ...
