Hi rosiegee,
Welcome to the community! π
Based on your description, it sounds like it won't let you in because it's expecting you to enter the security key code you receive via SMS at the end of your password.
There are some mobile and app checkout flows that do not currently offer the option to send the SMS security code. That's definitely something we need to work on. The good news is that there is a workaround in the form of the Security Key application. The mobile application is free and also helps if you don't want to use SMS (helpful for limited texting plans too π ).
You can learn more about the mobile apps here: http://vipmobile.verisign.com
or search for "VIP Access" on your mobile phone app store.
Once you have the application installed (it will work on iPad too), you can activate this security key by logging into your PayPal account and:
- Click on "Profile" then click "More Options" or click on "Profile" again.
- Click on "My Settings" on the left side
- Click "Update" next to Security Key
- Next click on "Get Security Key" (See below)
- Next you'll want to click on the "Activate" or "Activate your Security Key" under the third option. (See below)
- The next page will ask for the Security Key Serial Number as well as two unique security codes.
- Open up the VIP Access Mobile app. Enter the "Credential ID" into the Security Key Serial Number box and enter two unique security codes. Example of iOS version of the app shown below:
- Next click the "Activate" button on PayPal and we're done! π
Now you'll just need to enter the security code from the app immediately after entering your PayPal login password if a PayPal checkout doesn't prompt for the security key automatically.
I hope this helps anyone looking for a free alternative to the SMS security key. π
- Frank
