The mobile PIN is not the same as the SMS pin when you login elsewhere. When you download the mobile app, you need to login to your PayPal account on your computer and in your profile area you need to click on "set or change mobile PIN" (might not be exact quote, but you see it there). Create a new PIN there. When you login using the mobile app, you will always be asked for this PIN. Hope this helps. Replies from PayPal "help" were not straight forward on this and I put two and two together and found this solution.
