I just got word from the PP Tech people:   "This is a known issue that appears to be affecting Firefox version 33 and up. We have tested with all other browsers and they should be fine. I would recommend trying the instructions attached as it has helped multiple customers."   The attached info says to use the newest Java 8 v 25 and also to empty the Java Cache which isn't the usual cache. You'd have to google how to do it. They attached a detailed file on it that had quite a few steps. @amyj67074 wrote: I have voided 3 lables in 12 hours. I'm getting the same windows. I updated the version of Java on one of my computers and it finally worked. However, it said that the version wasn't supported by the version of Windows I had (Win XP) and that it might not work right, but it did work. So I believe I'm OK now for my PC. My Mac says it has the newest vs of Java already installed yet it doesn't work so who knows about it. ... View more

USPS label Java won't work on Mac or PC or any bro...

I'm trying to print USPS International postage labels. They seem to require a different process than a regular label. Every now and then I've had them not work and I get an empty window that says I need to have Java Runtime, which I do have. I can usually "resolve" it by using another machine or browser, but now I'm in a real pickle.   I can't print an international label on either Mac or PC nor does any browser work!!!   On a Mac I get my usual pop-up window that shows the label but this time I get "Please wait...... processing." Sometimes I first get the "Interruption" error and then the "Please wait...."   On a PC the label window pops up but the area of the label only says "Java Runtime."   I use older machines, sure, but still. I'm using Mac OS 10.8.5 or Win XP. I'm using the newest versions of browsers and Java. (Well, not the newest Java on my WinXP machines.)   Anyone know how to fix this???? THANKS!   (I'm nervous because when I type "java" into the search for this forum I come up totally empty. No other question asked about it. Odd!) ... View more

Using Weight-Based Shipping Method in my App?

by JeffOYB Contributor in About Business (Archive)

I just set up a Storeya cart on my Facebook page. It's an App where I can't change the code. It integrates with PayPal shipping methods. I have my methods set up in my Profile. But when I go to make a test purchase and try to use the shipping calculator upon check-out I keep coming up with a zero ship-cost total. I have set up both Weight-based and Amount-based shipping methods. (Offhand, only Weight seems to really make sense to me because that's how postage is charged. Right?)   Do I need to log into PP first to see the Shipping function working? That doesn't make sense. My location is what makes sense. I could be using a friend's/family's PP acc't to purchase something from a different location. Also, the shipping calculator option is displayed BEFORE I have to log in, so it should function just fine, right?   Really, what seems to be missing is any info about making sure the CART-side of the shipping is set up right. My little free Storeya App just asks me to enter price in the Product info, and it tracks quantity also. There's no place for me to enter item weight and so this means that it can't work with the Weight Method. Am I right? If so, then Storeya should mention this.   However, I also have an Amount Method set up. That should work. But so far it doesn't! I'M FRUSTRATED!   Does PP have a "sandbox" mode where I can pretend to buy something from myself? I'm stuck! I just want to doublecheck the whole process. Tho, as I said, PP isn't asking a customer to log-in before giving them ship info...   So...any insights about how to get a cart to interact with the shipping methods that I set up on PP? Thanks! ... I've seen quite a few complaints about this, here and at eBay. Something really has to be done! There must be a million PayPal customers who are being **bleep**ed by this glitch.   Once again: I can't use PayPal to a print International postage. I occasionally need to print Priority International on my PowerBook with PowerPC chip, OS10.5.8, any browser. It doesn't work! The WORST part is that I only need this service every other month. So I FORGET the glitch and fill out the form and only remember the lameness at the end when I see the Pitney-Bowes window pop up. RATS! Then I have to go to the USPS homepage and do it all over again! (Today the USPS site hasn't been working for this, either.)   The snap is with Pitney Bowes and International Customs stuff, I guess. It's the Java Applet or something.   ANYWAY, FIX IT YOU GUYS!!! PAYPAL, EBAY, USPS and PITNEY-BOWES -- ALL YOU BUMS GET TOGETHER AND FIX THIS!!!   (Yes, it's true, all you do that works is great. But if one of your services FAILS without warning for users then they ALL GET ANGRY and you ALL become BUMS to them! If you're not going to fix it then set up a detector or something that can PREVENT a customer from using International postage with a computer that can't handle it the way you have it set up.) ... Can't ship international with my Mac PowerPc

by JeffOYB Contributor in Shipping (Archive)

I have two Mac PowerPCs which make every kind of USPS label just fine, except for International. I've used Firefox, Safari, Opera: nothing works. It's the PITNEY BOWES Java Plugin that just doesn't launch. My computers ask for permission, I give the OK to "trust" but nothing loads. My Macs are both up to date on their Java. I'm thinking that it's just my PowerPC processors that Pitney doesn't like. (I can't use Stamps.com and TurboLister, etc., on the PPCs.) But I see no mention of this as a problem anywhere. Any ideas what's going wrong? Thanks, JP ... View more

Chuck, that's a bit awkward. Isn't it a repeat of the post just before mine? I read it already. OK, I suppose you can't assume that nowadays, even tho I refer to other posts, and to the thread, and I mention Stamps in my post. Anyway, I know about Stamps.com. I do half my biz via PayPal itself and half thru eBay. So the free Ebay-biz account probably won't work for me. Right? Or can I do all my PayPal biz free thru Stamps.com? That would be interesting.   One stop shopping is what I need.   I'm only trying to get to the bottom of why only Stamps/Endicia offer this ONE particular class of mail and what is the real reason why PP and eBay do not, and why they let ANY business willingly go to S/E. It's not businesslike. "I'm sorry, we can't help you, please go to our competitor."   I may well start using S or E if I can't figure another way out or find out why P/E do what they do. (Or why Click'n'Ship itself only offers limited postage.) Lastly, if I DO find out a sensible reason why the situation is as it is, then I might also start using S or E.   PS: I certainly can't continue to process orders manually and drive in and stand in line just for one class of mail.   PPS: I'm going to open an Amazon Store, too. Does Stamps or Endicia offer one-stop postage-shopping for those orders, too? (I don't know if payment would come thru PayPal at all in that case.)   --JP ... View more

ps: I just looked into this idea of "I'll just use my USPS Account."   I found these two things:   https://gateway.usps.com/bcg/login.htm   http://www.usps.com/nationalpremieraccounts/paymentaccount.htm   Neither make any normal sense. Neither mention anything about generating online postage or processing PayPal/eBay orders through an Account. (I looked thru their FAQ, etc.)   Anyone know if our problem can be solved by using a USPS Account?   Again: I'll only want to use ONE method to handle all my postage generating for PP/Ebay sales. ... It is astounding to me that PayPal/eBay would WILLINGLY and BLATANTLY give business to any other company.   (The weight explanation is malarkey.)   Since PP/Ebay are in business, isn't their prime directive to make sure that as many Stamps.com and Endicia.com customers shop from PayPal/eBay instead?   This lack of 1st Cl Internat'l is driving me nuts. It's totally bonkers that eBay lets you sell with that class of postage but won't let you process postage for it. I have to take all of my (many) internat'l orders out of my online/automated system and manually process them and drive to the USPS and stand in line. It introduces huge chances for mistakes. There's no more digital accounting for my processing of those orders! Then the USPS receipt only says "Canada" on it. I send a bunch of orders to Canada every week so if a customer wonders about their package, I'm lost. Sure, I do my best to keep the paperwork, but every internat'l order is TAKEN OUT OF MY NORMAL WORKFLOW: total recipe for disaster. It's insane to have to have two separate processing/shipping tracks! It costs me hundreds of extra hours a year and thousands of $.   OK, I'm going to look into this "get a USPS Account" idea (that two people mentioned previously without any elaboration, as if it was obvious). Altho my local postmasters have never mentioned it. What's up there? I'm not confident that I'll be able to easily see what's involved online. Is "use my USPS Account" the answer?   If anyone here knows how to process PayPal/eBay orders online for First Class International, let's hear it!   Lastly, I hate the idea of paying a private company for postage if it has the taint of monopoly. The idea that Stamps.com and Endicia.com has an EXCLUSIVE on online postage drives me nuts as well. Actually, Click'n'Ship should offer ALL the classes. I note that C'n'S doesn't offer domestic 1st Cl, Media Mail, or Parcel Post. Thus the gov't offers very little online postage. They must sell the concessions to do it. Stamps. com and Endicia.com are the only buyers so far for 1st Cl Internat'l. That's nuts. I suppose it's not technically a monopoly. It must be that PP/eBay just won't bite.   Sure, I could switch to Stamps/Endicia, but that's another new, annoying thing with subscriptions, etc., involved. I hate the idea of doing it just for ONE class of postage! ... View more
