Synchrony SMS Alert - Fraud or error?

I just received an SMS message stating that a purchase exceeding "the amount specified" was just approved on my PayPal credit account. I did make a purchase on Ebay, but well within any limits, and my PayPal credit account has a balance of just a few dollars. The amount charged to my account was consistent with the Ebay purchase and I've had much larger transactions on the same account....has anyone else been getting these confusing and concerning SMS messages from PayPal for typical low dollar Ebay transactions? Normally I'd suspect some type of phishing scam, but those contain a link to lure victims - this had no links or attachments. ... View more

You hould be able to file a disput with Papal directly snce this was not an Ebay item. You can also contact Ebay and explain to them that the seller lured you into an unsolicited transaction and closed the auction early  - which is a direct violation of Ebay' sellers rules. It must be an unsolicited offer from the seller - one you did not suggest - having said that, you may still be **bleep**ed becuase once Ebay has it's transaction fees, they don't really care anymore and you will be highly unlikely to get any saitisfaction or recourse from them. You may gt yor money back from Paypal, but if it's outside of 45 days, you're **bleep**ed. I'm currently being scrwed over by tat 45 day rule by a seller on Ebay who specifies 60 day delivery timeframes - another sanctioned scam snactioned and protected by Ebay and Paypal. If you think you're protected, think again - it's all about the money, not the consumer. You may be able to create trouble for the seller and get them to honor their agremment by causing this trouble, but maybe not. If yo used Paypal funds for this transaction, you'e **bleep**ed, if you used a credit card, you may hae some recourse through the bank who issued the credit card but Paypal or Ebay help - you're kidding yourself. ... bought a DVD set back in early Ocober from an Ebay seller in Thailand. Once the transaction was completed, the seller along with Ebay sent an estimated delivery date that was 60 days from the close of the auction. The item was never delivered and the seller refuses to repsond to any emails. Once 45 days have passed, you lose any ability to recover stolen funds from either Ebay or Paypal. The seller was intentionally providing an estimated delivery timeframe outside of the dispute resolution date hoping that the buyer would wait the entire estimated timeframe then have no options for recovery of stolen funds. Ebay won't honor a dispute request since the estimated delivery timeframe has not passed, but once it does pass, you can no longer open a dispute - Easy plan to fraudulently create listings you never plan on fulfilling and get protcted by those who host the fraud. The fraud is protected by Ebay and Paypl policies and their resolution center does care, or won't help with any effort to recovery the stolen funds. I don't know if I can provide the fraudulent seller's ID, but they still have listings for the exact same items open in Ebay, and have received negative feedbacks ratings since October for non-delivered goods. Pretty easy way to get money from unsuspecting and trusting buyers while having the theft of these funds protected by both Ebay and Paypal - I'm thinking the only way I'll ever see a refund is to do the same thing myself - anybody want to buy any DVD's from Thailand? - only 60 days estimated delivery - how about it ? Paypal doesn't care - you need to get ripped of within 45 days and report it for it to count - pretty shoddy. ... View more
