Lynnette You are right in your action against the policies of paypal.  While you are at it, do you realize we pay a portion of the shipping fees to paypal, as well as the cost of the merchandise? And, ranting will resolve nothing, unless it eases your pain to vent your anger.  However, MONEY TALKS and is the only thing that talks and less ranting and more action is the only way to confront what we might call unfair practices! We can rant and rave all day and feed $$$ and your rants will be ignored, scoffed at and create a laugh for the CO. officials who set policies.  I have found most people in this world like to complain, rant and rave and do nothing.  This applies to political, and all other sources, they cling to.  I am not sure why, but I believe FEAR prevents people from acting on their rant.s If you are depending on online auctions for your  livlihood,  You should never put all your eggs in one basket.  I received an email this morning from someone who told me she sells 10 times on Amazon what she sells on ebay and has 1/4 the amount listed.   NOW, WHAT DOES THAT SAY? knkh.  Don't be so sure the release of funds is due to any change of heart with paypal.  They were probably warned by the FEDS, they would be closed down if they kept money more than 48 hours after the item was received, because they have all kinds of gimmicks to hold money, some have been relate to me outside of this forum.  There is no question, revenue is down and they are trying to show increased revenues, profits, etc. to keep their stock from falling.  However, gimmicks are only good for a seASON and be sure the TRUTH will FIND you out!!!!! We know the mega law suits against them must be eating deeply into their profits and as the economy declines, these matters are going to get worse.  BESIDES,  AMAZON is now taking the lead in online markets and several magazines have written articles about the HUGE SUCCESS AMAZON IS ENJOYING!   It must scare ebay to have such an aggressive compeitor that followed them into online business.  It is my understanding half.com does very little book sales.  I have a few books listed and am waaiting to see what happens before I list more. ... paypal has many gimmicks to hold funds, buyers   fu nds  are    on ly one of them.  WE NEVER USE PAYPAL ON OTHER SITES EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE IT.  Our Wells Fargo bank account since 1978,their courtesy and way of doing business is MOST satisfactory and why wuld we want to change?   AND WE DONT WANT A PAYPAL CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD!!!!   WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH WELLS FARGO SERVICES. So, when paypal holds funds from a seller  for 6 more days after it clears my bank account   (CALLED THE BANK AND ASKED WHEN IT CLEARED)  That is not a very cordial way to treat a seller, huh?I cancelled the sale when it didn't arrive  in 2  weeks and  that added more insult  to the seller.       Hopeful,   the seller was angry and will respond accordingly to the ebay punishment to her. The internet is increasingly adding new sites for buying and I found another one today and am happy for the problem with paypal as it forces us to look around and make changes to our habits.   In fact,    I am grateful now,  because I have found a new website I spt t 3 hours shopping on with good prices and superior merchandise. All financial planners and Managers of  assets are warning to stop USING CREDIT CARDS, UNLESS YOU CAN PAY THEM MONTHLY and they do not accumulate fees.  One man wrote a book  of interest,  he explained the cunning ways naive People are lured into using credit cards, while the credit card company is figuring out a way to keep you in debt and paying them interest and fees the rest of your life.   It is amazing what they get away with and Congress investigated all of them and have stopped some of their tactics,but not all.   The Card companies are masters at getting around the the policies laid out by FEDS and after all, this is how they MAKE MONEY!!   So, you should get wise and learn how to beat the system!  You can beat the system and cost of buying and selling as well.  Take heed and figure out how you can make the most profit and begin a new plan for the NEW YEAR.  I  NEVER APPRECIATED PAYPAL and when   WE SOLD A GOLD COIN A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND IT ENDED UP COSTING US $50 PAYPAL charge, SELLING FEES ADDED ANOTHER $50.  The buyer made an offer and we accepted it, and we learned we could sell it for $200 more than we listed it for, at a local coin shoip....lololol Needless to say, we didn't list anymore coins on internet auctions.  ... I come from a family of merchants, the greatest of all problems is cash flow and the sooner you collect on a sale, the more money you make.   In fact, you can collect on a sale and turn it over into 3 more  (MAYBE) if you reinvest and sell quickly.  So, in the day when it is hard to make profits, getting your money to work for you is the key to surviving in retail or merchandising.  When your money is tied up for weeks at a time and you are putting out more money for the dead horse (ITEM SOLD) it continues to cost you money and in the end, did you really make ANY PROFIT WORTH THE TIME AND YOUR INVESTMENT IN THE GOODS.   This is what all online sellers need to realize and work to your advantaqe.  I like to sell with no FEES, it may take a little longer and maybe noit! !!!   Whateer you do, you must always experiement and be ready to make changes in the New Year wherever it is necessary, these are hard times, the govt. is printing money like newspaper and it can't last forever. So,, research, experiment, listen just like ebay and paypal are doing with these blogs.  They find out how far they can go with their policies according to the tolerance of their members.   You must learn from people in the same way and at the same time, learn how you can make your work worthwhile.  I am a CAPITALIST! thomy, whoever sets up the group of X ebayers, please count us in.   We have been doing most of our buying elsewhere for several years.  Many people sent us to craigslist and it didn''t work for us, but it does for them!  We are back to other market places online as we were before  we decided to list a few things on ebay in December. WE are not loyalists to anything that doesn't benefit us anymore  than Ebay or Paypal are loyalists to their old sellers.   WE sold thousands and thousands of HIGH END Jewelry, and other pricey items on ebay long ago for less than their value and it was ok then, but not now.   We had many bad experiences and decided we didn't need to put up with this and pay for it. So, we are returning to our old habits and fishing around the internet for a good place to buy and sell and found one already.   We decided not to use the paypal funds being held to purchase online, (as paypal would like us to do).  In fact, we are buying using our credit card with Wells Fargo we have had since 1978., IT WORKS!  lol When we can post freely at a new site, i will share some very interesting things with all of you.   ... Hello rmc and thanks for your well thought out post!  You have it right,  some of us who sold thousands and stayed with ebay in the early days, continuing to sell, as they continued to raise fees, invent new gimmicks for more $$, and use unfair practices,, which I could relate but wont at this time.  The problem is they had no competition and selling online became a way of doing business and we didn't know what we could do, so we accepted all their changes in their favor and went along with it.  Now, you are faced with reinventing your business and starting over, but I do believe a mass exodus will be a good thing and I like the "NO LISTING FEES", dont you? It will take time, send emails to your mailing list and tell them to come by your new site! Tell all your friends, "We ar selling now on ____________".   Remember when you heard about selling on ebay?.. We WERE THEIR BEST ADVERTISING,, called word of mouth. So, don't give up and be patient but keep the word out and it WILL WORK somewhere else. I added up the losses, the fees and realized I was not making enough on ebay like so many told me, of  late and for the past 2 years we have been doing alot of business with people through we sites and  don't mean ebays web sites.    Yoiu have to link like minded sellers and you will build a network. hey dragon!! I think listing items under $10, or more like $3.99 will be fun...  We all have some books, junk to unload and why not unload it and let them use our funds?  hahah  A friend told me she was going to load 150 items under $5.00 because she is having a clean out sale at her place., sorat after the Christmas clean up.  It sounded like a great idea when we have time to do it.  Just nickles and dimes and they can hold the funds for 21 days and see if it helps raise CASH.  A nickle and dime here and there will only take a couple of million to raise some money.  I suspect ebay's and paypals legal fees are more than that a month, what say? I agree this is an effort to raise CASH and perhaps fix cooked books?   ebay is on the New York stock exchange and stocks made Meg Whitman, a multi millionaire or is it billionaire?   You know, she is the last ceo...... She will have enough money to get the nomination, but not my vote.   In any event, she is running for Governor of California and I think I will vote against her if she is a runner. Hello Musicman and Welcome to "WISEMEN" group.  You are right and you wont need to get into legalalities  with   paypal  just cut your money flow to them to ZERO!  When enough people do this, they will get the message.  MONEY TALKS is the Wisemen motto! Second motto is , TALK is cheap, and anyone can talk, but put your money where your mouth is!!  Don't allow anyone to use your money unless you give it to them. Notice how difficult it is to reach a real person on PAYPAL, now? They have a list of babbles to legitimize holding funds, but makes you wonder?
