Maybe I worded it wrongly but I never meant any offence to anyone or to put anyone off. I am just aware that because I obviously made a mistake in sending money with no written agreement etc, people might just want to tell me it's my own fault and berate me for being stupid. I don't understand what has bothered you about that. I just genuinely wanted some advice and not to be sent several messages about how I shouldn't have done it because I already acknowledge that I made a mistake. I am autistic and suffer from depression and anxiety and extremely low self esteem. I just wanted to get some advice and not just have people pointing out what I have already acknowledged. I genuinely am very confused as to why you have taken offence to a simple request to protect my mental wellbeing. I apologise if you think I have insulted you in any way. I never meant to and am confused about how I managed to? ... View more

Verbally agreed loan between friends not repaid

I realise there may not be a resolution to this and that I took the risk with this knowing what the potential outcome could be. A friend who lives in a different country was in desperate need of help and support and was (according to him) under threat of extreme violence if money was not repaid. I took pity on him and sent him money to help him out but made it very clear that this was a temporary loan as I don't work and have very little money available. I needed the money back in time to hopefully renew my car insurance in May. This gave him around 3 months at the time to pay the money back. He sent me two small amounts towards it in that time but still owes me $90. We are now heading into July, 2 months after the agreed repayment date and 5 months since he received the money from me. As I said, I realise that I took a risk with this and relied on a friendship and a verbal agreement to ensure I was repaid. I know there is little, if any, chance that I will ever receive this money back but I wondered if anyone else has ever been in this sort of situation before and if so, what did you do? Is there anything at all I can do to try and reclaim this money? It wasn't a purchase of any kind so there is no paper trail as such. Does anyone have any advice of what I could do? I do fully understand that I need to never do this again and need to stop being so soft and trusting. Please don't barrage me with insulting and negative responses, I know it's my own mistake. ...
