I am the new treasurer for a community sports club. The previous treasurer left after a dispute with the club, and has set our paypal account to require 2FA to his phone, to which we do not have access. We do have access to the email address. PayPal have been typically unhelpful - they said we needed a subpoena, which I'm fairly sure is not how things work in Australia. We could apply for a court order but have no idea which court or what the wording of the order would need to be. Has anyone had any experience of getting PayPal to recognise ownership of an account which has been hijacked? Their approach so far has been to provide as litle information as possible, knowing that they'll probably just get to keep our money. Any help appreciated.
