This just happened to me as well! I tried using Paypal checkout using my Wells Fargo credit card and selected the checkbox to use my cash rewards towards the purchase. I was sent a transaction verification text from Wells Fargo to verify the purchase which I did. I went back to the Paypal purchase screen and the transaction was gone. I then went through the same process of making the purchase only this time my cache rewards balance was zero. I mistakenly thought that maybe the cash rewards were going to be credited to my Paypal account, that was a wrong assumption. I filed a dispute with Paypal and Wells Fargo. I contacted Wells Fargo and was told that it was up to Paypal to correct the issue and they closed my dispute. I contacted Paypal several times and was ultimately told by one of their rewards department supervisors that Paypal is just a payment processing company and that there was nothing they could do. I contacted Wells Fargo several times over the past 14 days and have been told by their rewards department supervisor that there isn't anything they can do about it because the cash rewards have already been deducted from my account. Someone at Wells Fargo needs to get this figured out and resolved. They have a very big flaw in their rewards processing flow that needs to be fixed. Those cash rewards should NEVER have been sent before the transaction was verified and submitted. I know they can see the failed/abandoned credit card transaction in their system and I know they can tie my rewards transaction to it. It should be a VERY simple process to connect the dots and credit me back the money owed. No one wants to help and everyone wants to blame the other company. Take responsibility for your faulty system and make this right. The crazy thing is that if I would have reported a fraud transaction this would have been fixed and I'd already have my account credited. Someone has my cash rewards balance other than me and it doesn't belong to them..... smells like fraud to me.
