Right, so it sounds like there isn’t anything more I can do? I’m not going to twist my dad’s arm to share these documents with PayPal, especially after the mistake was mine. Is there any action I can take, either asking Dad’s card company to close the disputed transactions, or to remove my financial data from PayPal, or close my PayPal account now that PayPal has let me know there isn’t any other way to resolve the issue? By the way, Dad said he would be willing to submit the documents required by PayPal if he could redact irrelevant sensitive data, still leaving all the requirements for the documents stated by PayPal, but PayPal says if there are any redactions on the documents, they will be rejected. I have had my PayPal account for almost a decade and haven’t had a single case of fraud to my name. I absolutely understand PayPal’s policies, but you’d think if I were a scammer I would be slightly more prolific. Also, my Dad’s name is on his credit card I used. We have the same last name. I dunno. Seems like there should be another way out of this. ... View more

Hi community!  Long story short: my dad gave me his credit card to book hotels for a trip we took together.  I added Dad's credit card to my PayPal account and forgot to delete it after the trip.  Months later, I accidentally charged Dad's card via PayPal for three purchases, thinking it was my card.  Dad reported fraud for those three purchases to his credit card company and I got a notification via PayPal.  When I realized my mistake, I let Dad know and Dad called his credit card company the same day to say the charges were *not* fraud.   PayPal put a temporary limitation on my account and required proof of Dad's statement, photo ID, and a signed letter saying he gave me permission to use his card.  Here's where things get interesting: Dad does not want to send PayPal his credit card statement or photo ID for security reasons.  I think this is reasonable, so I'm not going to push.   So what's the best I can do from here?  I know PayPal isn't going to remove the limitation without the documents, but I also I can't close my PayPal account because of the limitation and I can't remove Dad's credit card (or any of my financial accounts) from my PayPal account...am I just done with PayPal forever?  And if so, how do I get PayPal to close my account?  Do I have to just leave this account inactive for eternity?  I asked PayPal if I could get Dad's credit card company to let PayPal know the disputed transactions were dropped, but they said no. ...
