Thank you for your reply @HansSter, my apologies that was not a complete answer for your concern. You're absolutely right, it's never a great situation when you are charged for a purchase you did not make. During the investigation of an unauthorized dispute, an example that PayPal would consider unauthorized is when someone steals / fraudulently obtains the login information for your PayPal account, uses that information to access your PayPal account, and then sends a payment from your PayPal account.
However, in situations where you grant previous authority to someone to use your PayPal account by giving them your login information, like in the case of giving it to a friend or family member or having it saved on your phone, mobile device, etc as a funding source for a billing agreement, you would normally be responsible for those charges unless you have previously notified PayPal that you no longer authorize transfers by that individual / entity.
With that in mind, reaching our to our Customer Support as I stated above may be able to provide an alternate solution. They may be able to review the case a bit further and provide additional context on the case that may not have been previously provided. I'm not saying it's a 100% sure-proof way to get a refund, I'm just saying our support is there to help when they can.
Thank you for your time, and best wishes using PayPal in the future,
- Jon K
