Since PayPal has done absolutely nothing to fix this problem, I’ve come here to publicly state that my PayPal account was hacked by Russians. Let me start from the beginning: First, keep in mind that I HAD NEVER used PayPal since 8/8/19...a full YEAR ago. 08/23/20: I received an email from PayPal telling me that someone named Rodney Young sent me 3,587.55 RUB. When I clicked on the email it suddenly disappeared. I figured it was a mistake and the message disappeared because they reversed the payment. 08/23-24/20: Some transactions have been happening without my knowledge. By this time, the hackers have been sending me money for a “product” that I never sold them. They also tried to transfer $1,000 from my savings account TO PAYPAL. 08/25/20: I receive a notice from my bank that money was withdrawn from my account: approximately $27.89. I IMMEDIATELY call my bank, claim fraud, and have them freeze and lock my card (which the hackers used to access my account from PayPal). I then tried to talk to Customer Service through the Message Center...which was a complete waste of time. My Paypal account balance went from $0.00 to -$13 (YES, NEGATIVE) in the span of a few days. How that happened, I’m not sure. When I asked a customer service rep, they said I’d have to ADD MONEY to my HACKED PayPal account in order to get rid of the negative balance and close the account. I filed multiple claims to inform PayPal that my account was hacked—to no avail. The irony that my bank acted quicker than PayPal is rich... 08/26-27/20: I talk to more customer service reps and call the department responsible for claims or something. I tell him what happens and he says there’s nothing he can do about that—I’ll have to contact customer service...WHICH I ALREADY DID. By this time I’m having multiple panic attacks because all of my PERSONAL information is linked to that PayPal account. Today, 08/30/20: I receive an email at 2am telling me that PayPal dismisses my case about someone having unauthorized access to my account. The irony is that back on the 23rd they reported “suspicious account activity” via email (I was only able to find those emails after looking in my trash folder on gmail—yes, the hackers HID all of the emails from PayPal and had them marked as read so I wouldn’t find them). This is utterly ridiculous and unacceptable. All I asked was if PayPal could close my account so I could move on with my life, instead, I’m facing multiple mental health crises and fearing that I’ll experience identity theft or worse. PayPal, you suck. You’re horrible. I want to take you to court.
