I ordered an item from an online merchant who only accepted PayPal. I provided my PayPal MasterCard # and it was accepted. I then get an email from PayPal that I owe them money. I log into my PayPal account and my PayPal MasterCard shows a zero balance but the amount I owe shows up with no specific account listed. Can someone tell me why the amount did not go on my PayPal MasterCard since that is the number I provided the merchant and instead was applied to what I assume is my "regular" PayPal account? The transaction was made on December 12th and today is January 9th so by normal financial norms the payment was not past due. I never received a bill. I just got an email saying I owed them money which the way it was worded made me suspect a scam. I logged into my account using my own login information and not following the link in the email which is how I found out the amount owed was not on my MasterCard as I had expected. I looked for a way to send them a check for the amount owed but the only information on their website was how to link a bank account to my PayPal account. There was no way that was going to happen so I called them. I contacted their collections department and payed the amount with a credit card other than my PayPal MasterCard so as to avoid a similar problem. Problems like this is why PayPal will always be my payment method of last resort.
