Diann, I can certainly sympathize with you.  A couple of years ago, my husband and I sent $2800 for an antique vase.  Guess what?  The vase never came, Paypal never did a thing, and the seller became unregistered.  This was turned over to several Federal entities, but no one ever found the guy - he never existed.  Shortly after that, we purchased another antique vase for over $450.  Again, no vase, no refund, no nothing.  Paypal was of no help at all.  So, we lost quite a substantial amount as buyers....As sellers, we all continue to lose.  We lose money from the fees they charge, we lose customers because we don't want to send items out until the money is in our hands, and we lose patience.   As I said before, from now on, I will not send any item out until the money is in MY hands.  Although I haven't sold recently, I would like  to begin again to make some extra money.  But, as others have said, there will be a disclaimer...I will NOT release any item until I have been paid. So, buyers will have a choice....27 days with Paypal or 2 - 3 days with a check.  Their choice, not mine. ... View more

I agree with mparent.  Where, in all this BS, is the seller protected???? He's not.  The sellers are the ones making Paypal the big bucks, not the buyer.  Yet, Paypal policy protects only the buyer.  As a previous poster stated, these buying/selling transactions are PRIVATE, between the seller and the buyer.  They are NOT between the seller, buyer, and Paypal.  Paypal is only supposed to be an avenue by which a buyer can pay for an item, the seller can receive payment, end of story.    I, for one, will NOT ship an item to abuyer until the money is available to me.....that doesn't mean it's being "held" in my Paypal account.  After all,  who's to say the buyer won't just get the item, claim it's not what it was supposed to be or, better yet, that he didn't get it at all?  Paypal refunds their money and here sits the dumb""s seller - out their item AND the shipping....Fair???Not!!!!   Recently we won an auction and in the body of the listing, it said (In large, bold print)  I DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL - DON'T EVEN ASK!!! IF YOU ONLY WANT TO USE PAYPAL, GO BID ON ANOTHER AUCTION, DON'T BID ON MINE!! Great ad, I thought! ... View more

Amanda,   Paypal should not be holding funds, period.  If there is an issue between a buyer and seller, that's where it should remain.  Paypal is only a means of payment, not of monitoring.  It was originally a way for a buyer to pay for an item so that the seller could deliver it quickly, rather than waiting for the postal service to deliver a check (and have the check clear)  or money order.  If I was selling a valuable antique or other costly item, there is no way I would send that item before payment was made to ME and accessible by me.  The buyer would have to wait for the entire 21 days, or until the funds were released, before the item would be shipped.  Does this help the buyer??? NO.  Does it help the seller?  NO.  Does it help Paypal by allowing them to collect interest on these funds?  YES.  It appears that Ebay and Paypal have created a monopoly, and we know, all too well, what has happened to monopolies in the past.   I believe that you, as an obvious employee of Paypal who has read all of these complaints, needs to go to the top of your organization with print outs from all of these complaints.  Is losing a large part of your customer/buyer base worth this?  I think not.  Greed can end up being the nail in the coffin for a large corporation, reducing it to a non existent one.  It's time for Paypal to go back to basics.  Accepting payments for all items sold, releasing them to sellers immediately upon receipt.  Stop trying to play gestopo!!! ... If this wasn't so sad, it would be funny.  Ebay's earnings exceeded expectations, which they attribute to their successful subsidiary, Paypal.  I agree that this was a way for Ebay to cook the books.  As they see more and more people running, not walking, away from both Ebay and Paypal, I wonder if they'll take the responsbility for it.  I doubt it. I see some of the holds being removed from some accounts, but, there is NO WAY that Paypal should hold ANY funds from anyone for anything!!!! If they want to offer buyer protection through Paypal, fine.  But, I know from many sources that their "Buyer Protection" plan isn't worth the blurb they have on their website.  The only sellers that should have holds placed on their accounts are those who have been habitual problem sellers, and even then, I don't think Paypal is the one to be assigned to this duty.  If the seller is a bad seller, Ebay should just stop them from selling - suspend or cancel their account. I don't care if you sell electronics or cars, it shouldn't matter.   You should be able to sell an item, get paid for the item, send the item, and be done with it.  If there's an issue, any good seller will listen to their buyer and try to resolve it.  A bad seller should just go away!    What ever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"?  PAYPAL is basically saying that all sellers **bleep**, no matter how excellent they really are.   Like I said, if this wasn't so sad, it would be funny....   Ebay, Paypal, I sure hope you're reading these messages.....And, I hope the messages are coming through loud and clear.  Stop being so greedy.  Remember the little guy who got you to where you are today.  Without us, you'd be nothing.  Without us, you WILL be nothing......It may be the time to get back to basics.     ... Today, I sent a 3 pound package, with 185 pages in it, to Eric Holder, US Attorney General. The 185 pages included my two-page letter and all of the comments and complaints shown on this forum since the 21 day hold began. If anyone can tell us if this is legal or not, he should. If anyone can help us out, I'm hoping he can. As soon as I get a response (hopefully, I will), I'll post it here for all to see. Ebay should NOT force us to use Paypal or any other electronic pay system, only. As a seller, we should be able to choose what type of payment we'll accept - Paypal, check, or money order. Yet, we MUST use Paypal. That's the real issue. If we weren't forced to use Paypal and could choose our own acceptable payment type, no one would be using Paypal at all. Of course, Ebay knows this - that's why they made that change a year or so ago. ... View more
