But, so long as you get payment then you should be ok, so long as the item isn't on the 'not allowed by customs' list.
Australia post is pretty reliable, so your item is likely to get here ok
Saying that, aquis/customs are pretty strict about animal and food stuff, so if your item is one of those then you will likely run into the issue of them confiscating it, but that should be on the buyers head not yours. If they do confiscate an item the buyer will get a nasty notice in the mail from them saying why they have taken it.
I have brought lots of items from both UK and the states with no issues at all, apart from the up to 3 weeks postage at time, but that should be expected.
