Dear PayPal,
As the IT & Networking Manager of a company that uses PayPal as it's online payment gateway and a personal user also I can now safely say that the unscrupulous actions that the company is taking against an organisation that has been convicted of no crimes and stands for freedom of information for the people (that's us, the consumer remember?) has given me the initiative to change our payment gateway provider (Because you all seem to be a bit daft there at the moment, provider = you). This coupled with a complete lack of any human like service and a fraud prevention system that couldn't stop a toddler **bleep** in a pool makes this a rather overdue parting of ways. For a company that drives strong core morals you deliver nothing more than the satirical portrayal of an "Evil Corporation".
There's a great Aussie quote; "Pull your head in"
I feel it applies here somehow.

There is a drastic difference between taking a stance as an individual, and taking a stance through your business. Personally, I never cared anything for WikiLeaks, never used their site, nor concerned myself with it in any manner. But, when a company feels the need to insult its consumers, and take a stance against other organisations, is disrespectful.
I use paypal for my e-commerce business, as well as for personal use. I have many friends that do as well. And we are all disappointed in the actions taken against WikiLeaks, despite our own stance toward WikiLeaks. I have closed my Amazon and Ebay accounts. But I continue with Paypal at this time. Perhaps this will offer a new industry of providers to create similar services that can compete with PayPals ease of use (for the consumers of my business, not for me personally) and free the market of such a company.
The worst part about a business taking a stance in political matters such as this, is that the damage caused to the business is irreversible. The only thing that can be done, is a debate over the scale of consumer loss by holding your decision, or stepping back on your faulty actions.
I am severely disappointed.
Regards,

I have nothing to add to this topic, as most of it has been said already.
I do hope that PayPal is paying attention to this because even if I'm just one customer I'm adding my voice to the throng in support of quashing PayPal as they feel they can quash my choice in supporting freedom of speech and knowable....
Good bye PayPal....
Cheers NV!

I empathize (really!!) with those of you threatening cancellation of various accounts. However, I would like to point out that PayPal -- doing a STAGGERING amount of business in the United States -- is likely coming under equally staggering pressure from the FBI and many, many other factions, governmental and otherwise.
Because that's the way we do things here in "the land of the free."

A major problem with Paypal's rolling over in response to "pressure" from US agencies, is that Paypal is choosing to empower those who work in secret -- those who don't want the public to know what they are doing -- those who lie to the public in order to increase their power.
Paypal has turned its back on those who are trying to shine light into the dark places.
For instance, recent papers in the leaks revealed how the US worked to prevent strong action against global warming.
Citizens need real information, not distortions, to be informed voters.
Paypal executives have chosen to align the company with those who favor keeping accurate information from the public.
This is the opposite of the action of the New York Times, which had to resist government pressure and displeasure when it published the Pentagon Papers that revealed the dishonesty of the US government with regard to the Vietnam Wars.
Knowing that our government is given to lying to us is not sufficient -- we need specific information about the lies -- in order to decide how to deal with the information we get.
Wikileaks has been a very valuable effort to increase accurate information in the public market place of ideas. Paypals executives have taken a position against this effort.
If we fail to let Paypal know we oppose their action, they might think that their actions were acceptable. If we take our business elsewhere, they migh not notice, or they might not care. However, this is the main way we have to get Paypal to behave more bravely in the future. Hopefully, Paypal will reverse its action and restore Wikileaks payments.

I am also canceling my account with PayPal as well as eBay and have already canceled Amazon.
It's the least I can do for those who risk so much to bring us the truth, in the face of so many obstacles.

The cotporate bullies need reigning in. This is a good case for it. Paypal can classify my account as dead until they start behaving better.

I have never responded to a chat thread before, but I feel compelled. Why shouldn't PayPal impose sanctions on the terrorist who created WikiLeaks? I agree that we have a right to know, but at what cost? The information that this man has leaked could cost many of our soldiers their lives. Please think about that. We don't think twice about imposing economic sanctions on countries that threaten us. What makes this "movement" any different? I applaud PayPal for taking a stand. Hit them where it hurts. I for one will keep my account and will continue to support the safety of our troops. God Bless America and each of you.

I am new to this site and just now found this topic and the resulting comments. I must say thank you to "keepussafe" for acknowledging the facts in regards to these leaks. They threaten our homeland and all the men and women who are serving their country( and this is YOU PEOPLE they are risking their lives for) while you all sit and comment about protecting our right to free speech? If you think about it Assange doesnt qualify for that right because he is NOT American and he could care less about our right to know what our government is up to after all we are the American people that he and his ancestors love to hate. Come on people if you cant stand behind the people you elected to run this country then stand up and change whats going on here. Please do your part to keep us safe and free participate in the running of our great nation instead of bandwagoning behind a man who doesnt give a crap about anyone but himself and his growing bank account that you all are supporting. He is as guilty as the media portrays him to be open your eyes!!!
