Why was paypal balance not used?

I selected to have paypal balance used to pay first, had more than enough to cover transaction, but purchase still used credit card rather than balance.  Why?

I had set paypal balance as the default more than 15 hours prior to the next purchase, and had received an email saying "You selected your PayPal Balance as your preferred way to make payments....We'll use it whenever you shop online or send money for goods and services."   Yet, the next purchase, which was for less than 10% of my balance, used my credit card on file rather than the balance.

I verified that it still shows it's supposed to use Paypal balance first by checking online in wallet.  Anyone know why it would have done this?   The money was put there in the paypal balance more than 1 week ago...

Were the funds in your paypal balance in the correct currency?

Yes.  The funds were in USD, as was the transaction that should have drawn from them.

I have the same problem on Portugal...i recieved a payment from Brasil and now i cant use mu PayPal balance...it point me always to use my bank card

Interesting.  I wonder if there's a currency issue in your case?

I received funds from a rewards program into paypal, but they were all US funds from a US company, and the payment I was trying to make was on ebay in US funds to a US seller.

I still don't know why paypal balance wasn't used the other day for an ebay purchase, but for whatever reason, it worked fine with a payment I just made today that was NOT to an ebay seller.  Just thought I'd add that in case it helps anyone else out.
