Payments being processed when rejected by the seller...

Hi all!

I really hope someone can help me with this, on 14/03/24 I attempted to make a purchase online using pay in 3 but unfortunately the booking slot had timed out on the merchants site before I completed payment and the order was rejected or so I thought... so I tried a second time and the merchant site had the following response:

I then thought I had better check my Paypal account and found 2 payments pending so I thought ok they're just authorised and would be reversed BUT 2 days later the payments completed and were sent.

I now have the merchant claiming they rejected the payments and Paypal saying they sent the payment and I am getting nowhere, has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I have now raised a claim with the merchant but they are adamant they don't have the funds so can't refund...
