My Zettle 2 Card Reader is processing payments very slowly - any ideas why?

We're experiencing issues with our Zettle 2 card reader.
I has begun to process transactions so slowly that it is irritating to both us and our customers!
Connections are all fine, but when the payment is being processed it lags and takes up to a minute to decide if the payment has transacted correctly. As you can imagine these 60 seconds are a lifetime in the real world of card transactions - customers are beginning to walk away with their goods before the transaction has gone through! We have lost payments due to the machine processing so slowly and deciding after the event that the transaction didn't actually process!
This began happening a few months ago when we were experiencing wifi issues and using the app on an old mobile deivce. Since then, however I have changed wifi provider AND set up the app on a brand new Samsung tablet. This seemed to correct the issues for a while. BUT it has begun happening again and is not ideal!
Any ideas why this is happening and what troubleshooting steps I can take to correct the issues?
