How can I tell if money I sent has been picked up by the recipient?

Occasionally I've sent money to people, usually friends.  I can know by my transaction status that it went into their PayPal account, but what if, for example, they abandoned that email address and were never notified and never picked it up?   How would I know?

If the funds failed to transfer it would show as unclaimed on your paypal account and time out and go back to you at 30 days.

OK maybe I don't understand.  I seem to recall at times having a PayPal balance, where the money that came it appears to be being held by PayPal.

Solet's say I send money to you $20 and it's transferred out of my bank.  I know paypal sends you a notice that you may or may not ever read.  Are you saying that it ALWAYS leaves PayPal and transfers to your bank account (the one you have on your PayPal profile)?

If you send me funds it would show up in my paypal balance (not my bank account), that is unless you have the auto withdrawal option.

I would get an email from paypal stating I had received funds. If they show in my balance I can withdraw them as long as I am not subject to the new seller hold (if it was a goods/services payment), if its a friends/family payment the hold would not apply.

On your side it would show as paid/completed or sent and the hold would have nothing to do with you as that would be between me and paypal.
