I have recently sold an item. I have posted it and sent the buyer proof of postage and updated it on PayPal. PayPal currently have my money on hold so I cannot access it until the buyer has confirmed he has received it. I sent it via second class tracked delivery. Royal Mail have not yet delivered the item. I am worried about what happens if the item doesn't reach the buyer. Obviously the buyer will be compensated via PayPal but what will happen to me? I have proof of postage so I can prove I did send it but will PayPal also compensate me if it fails to arrive?
No paypal would not compensate you, any insurance you want to take out when you send an item is up to you.
If you sent 2nd class with tracking then you would have to see if Royal Mail would cover you but if you did not take out insurance then sadly I doubt it.
