Positive Feedback! -- Thank you PayPal from a Debit Card User

There isn't a good category for my message because I want to leave positive feedback to PayPal as well as let people know about a good policy PayPal uses.

I ordered a PlayStation 5 from Walmart. It costs $500 and I chose PayPal as my payment option. It's linked to my checking account. What I am very happy about is that PayPal will not deduct $500 from my checking account stating that "Money won't leave your account until Walmart.com processes your order." That means since the PlayStation 5 is so backed up and my estimated ship time is in February, Walmart won't "process" my order until it actually ships (or is about to). The result is that I won't have $500 taken from my checking account and then wait 2 months for the PS5 to ship. I don't know the technical terms for this type of payment transaction or that it just happens for any purchase where the shipping date is beyond a certain threshold. I believe every time I've used PayPal to order a product, the money comes out of my checking account right away and I just have to wait hoping the merchant ships eventually. So this praise may also be attributed to Walmart.

If I had a credit card (and I choose not to have one), this kind of scenario wouldn't really matter. Without this PayPal policy, paying with a debit card for an item that you won't get for a couple months is like a reverse credit card. I'm the one lending the merchant money with the risk of the merchant defaulting or just losing the time-value of money by waiting so long.

This arrangement is probably a combination of Walmart and PayPal's policies (or banking regulations). And I can only speak for myself. I was just really happy to get this positive experience from PayPal.
