I have a "full currency" credit card, which means that my card issuer will not take the currency conversion fees, or the fee is very low. Until 2019, I have always enjoyed paying with paypal with the card. I only need to select "Currency conversion by card issuer" on the card information page, and I can use it with ease for all payments, and I can ensure the lowest conversion fee.
However, you modified (hidden) conversion options someday in 2019. Everything changed.
First, I noticed higher-than-expected spending, and then discovered that paypal provided the currency conversion. I spent a lot of time on the paypal page looking for the currency conversion options I used before, but I found nothing. The currency conversion options that once existed in the payment / binding confirmation interface also disappeared. After spending a lot of time to google, I finally found it on the card selection page of "Automatic Payments".
But this is just the beginning of the disaster. Because I was completely unaware that the choice was specific to each automatic payment. Then I fell. After binding a new merchant and making a large payment, I received a bill that far exceeded expectations. I confirmed the exchange rate multiple times and found no problems. What happened???
Finally I discovered that Paypal provided the currency conversion and took a high fee! In other words, every time I make a payment at a new merchant, I need to visit the "Manage Automatic Payments" page of Paypal to set the currency conversion option, otherwise I always get a high conversion fee! Gone are the once convenient card-based currency conversion options.
So why? Why did you remove the original convenient option and forced us to choose a currency conversion for each automatic payment? Why did you also remove the currency conversion option that used to be on the automatic payment confirmation page?
You know, at least in some countries, Paypal offers more currency conversions than most banks charge! Are you making such deliberate changes to add trouble to your users? Let users spend more money, so Paypal can make more money???!!!
Yes, I know that Paypal is a business company and needs to get enough benefits. However, you have collected enough from the merchants, why are you still exploiting consumers???!!!
Or, I just hope I blame Paypal wrongly. You guys just forgot to give us a convenient option. Then please get the old handy currency conversion options back.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
