paying for a vacation rental

i found a vacation rental in boston which sounds amazing!! but they are requesting payment by paypal. what happens if this is a scam? do i have any recourse?

Wow, I can understand why you would be concerned.  Vacation rentals can get pricey, and no one wants to haul themselves or their family cross country only to find out they haven't received what they paid for. 

 

I'm very glad you asked this question, because it's very important - vacation rentals are considered a service, and they would not be covered under our own internal dispute process.  PayPal would allow you to file a dispute, but if it is escalated to a claim (and the seller refuses to work with you or issue a refund), PayPal would not be able to pursue the claim. 

 

However, making the payment through PayPal will not negate any other consumer protections you may have available.
