Deposit on Vehicle

I am trying to work out a purchase for a vehicle that is several states away. I am trying to work with the seller to hold the vehicle until I can fly out to his state in about a week. We spoke on the phone and he said I could give him $1000 to hold the vehicle. Is there a way to do this through paypal where my money is secured if the buyer happens to be a flake? Also is there a fee for the buyer or seller for the $1000 deposit?

Congratulations on locating the car you want!  Before you proceed further with this transaction, please keep in mind that payments for deposits are not eligible to be disputed through our claims process.  However, there is a way that you may be able to garner some protection as a buyer.  If the seller lists the car on eBay Motors, and it qualifies for their Vehicle Purchase Protection Program, you may have coverage through them.
