I was told by Paypal that a sum had been deposited in an escrow account for payment of a SALE. How do I know its still there and its OK to proceed?

Paypal do not do escrow.

No funds in your paypal account balance = you have not been paid.

Sounds like a SCAM.

If you are being asked to send to Africa somewhere 'trackable' BEFORE the funds show then its a SCAM.
