Pending refund taking far too long

I was sent a refund 7 days ago and it is still pending, paypal themselves stated it would be paid by the 24th January and it has still not been paid.( today being the 24th January) I cannot get an explanation, and phoning paypal is met by an automated response that cannot answer my questions. Where is my money and when will it be paid , Any bank would have cleared it by now. Can anyone offer an explanation!!!

Two reasons for a hold on refunds.

1. When you pay a seller it is never instant, paypal pays the seller for you and then starts the process of uploading your funds from your funding source. If the seller refunds before that payment has completed then you have to wait till it clears through to paypal then the refund is credited to you.

2. If your payment has processed then something goes wrong and the seller has to refund you. Then if the seller has no funds in their paypal balance they will fund the refund with an echeque but that takes a few days to clear, as soon as it clears the hold is lifted and your refund is credited to you.

They say it will clear on the 24th and as you say it is still the 24th and plenty of time left for it to clear.

But the clearance date is a "guesstimate" and depends on the funds clearing through to paypal.

Time will tell, I will wait and see how long its takes for my money to be returned to me. I worked in the banking sector and 7 days is more than enough time no matter how difficult it gets. I will wait till midnight, but my suspicions are my money will not be paid tonight.
