One week since cancelling an order, my money is still in the "pending" stage

One week ago I made an order with a company that for a couple of reasons we cancelled. The original money I sent however is still sat in the authorisation stage. Surely with the cancellation it should be back in my balance almost immediately? The company in question have said it would take 5-10 working days when I called them on Tuesday. Which could potentially leave me out of pocket of a very significant amount of money for nearly two more weeks. Suffice to say I'm not very happy whatsoever. Is there nothing I can do to speed this up? I have things to do with this money. Is this inefficiency on the side of the company or with PayPal? I find it absurd to think that an order cancellation doesn't result in the near immediate return of these funds to my PayPal balance.

When you pay a seller it is never instant > paypal credit the seller for you and then start the process of uploading your funds to paypal from your funding source.

This is done so you get your item more quickly.

So when you cancel that payment those funds can't do a u-turn > they have to process through to paypal who will then either return them to your funding source (if you paid with a debit or credit card), or credit your paypal balance (if it was funded from your balance or instant bank transfer), but that takes about 5-7 working days.
