No logic behind payment on hold

I have been a (non business) Paypal member since 2005 and currently  have a sizeable credit in my account

I also have an impeccable 100% feedback record with Ebay

Over the past couple of months I have had a number or transactions (both buying and selling) in the toys and models category with no disputes and every transaction has been successfully credited to my Paypal account.

Last weekend I started to dispose of my fishing tackle and successfully sold 4 items all of which were posted within 24 hours of the sale completion.

Now I fully understand that a sudden change of category can lead to payments being put on hold but here's the totally illogical bit:

Two of the items totaling over £100 were processed and credited to my account as normal.

The other two items totaling only £18.00 have had the payments put on hold.

Now Paypal states that a sudden change of category can lead to items being put on hold "for security reasons" but how does that stack up when they process the high value sales as normal but put the much lesser items on hold?  That makes no sense whatsoever.

I did email Paypal yesterday to query this very point - got an obviously automated response which had no relevance whatsoever to my query- replied to this pointing out their error - have had no reply this time - and also note that my original email which did appear in the notifications area has since disappeared.

Can anyone shed any light as to the logicality of this scenario.

Ebay and Paypal are 2 separate companies and have 2 separate policies for holding funds for new sellers etc.
If yours was an Ebay transaction then its an Ebay hold and Ebay apply any hold / authorise when paypal can release the funds.
Your best bet is to contact Ebay and ask why.

I have just received an email from Paypal assuring me that the funds will be released on the 12th March.

They also state that the application of a hold is "random" which makes a mockery of all their previously stated reasons for applying a "hold"

I will continue to use Paypal as a buyer but when it comes to selling I will seriously have to consider the options.
