I bought something with PayPal, but I have no money?

So I bought something of a website and I was paying for it through Pay Pal because it was the only option. I logged into my account and clicked "pay for item", and it said that I had paid for it! And that it was completed and I even got an email from the company saying it had been completed. I have $0 in my Paypal account and my debit card is NOT connected to my account, so how did it pay for it!?

Why would you buy something if you had no funds????????

When you pay a seller it is never instant > paypal credit the seller for you and then they take the wait for your funds to transfer from your funding source.

If that transfer fails then your account will be put into negative and limited until you pay paypal back again.

You may also lose some of the funding options.

I figured clicking on 'pay for item' would lead me to a page where I could fill in my debit card info. Sweet, thanks for that. So all I need to do is add the amount that I owe PayPal into this account right?

You would need to upload funds to your paypal account balance once it has become negative HOWEVER you can only do that via a bank account (and not card) linked to your paypal account and verified setting up the direct debit mandate.

Failing that wait for it to go into negative and then clear it this way >>>>

Ways to clear a negative balance.

1. Transfer funds from your bank account via "add funds" if you choose the faster method it should be done quickly.

2. Get a mate or family member to send you a payment to your paypal via the friends / family option (as long as they don't fund it with a card there is no fee).

3. Via a card over the phone with paypal. Tel number =
