Can you request a personal payment (no fees)?

I want to request that a friend transfers me some money. I obviously don't want to incur fees just because it was generated from a request.

There are some answers from 2/3 years ago saying this is not possible, but no update. When I go to request a payment, there is no mention of whether this will incur fees, so I wonder if this has changed?

Thanks!

The clue is in the word payment.

If a mate or family member is sending you a gift then that is a gift not a payment.

Your mate can send you a gift but you can't request one.

The button says 'Request Money from Anyone'. Once clicked it says, 'You can request money from anyone with an email address or phone number, even if they don't have a PayPal account. It's free for friends, or covered by PayPal Buyer Protection for eligible purchases.'

But then there is no option to choose 'free for friends'. Perhaps it was overlooked in the platform redesign. It is a genuine problem and not just a question of language. I look forward to seeing the option return, but at the moment it's not there.

You are posting on a thread dated 2014 and paypals site changes regularly.

Friends / family payments are only free if funded via funds in a persons paypal account balance OR bank transfer. If they use a card there is a fee.

A goods / services payment ie if you are selling goods is only free for the BUYER, the seller always pays a fee.
