I would like to purchase something on Facebook Marketplace. The seller won’t go through marketplace for payment, which protects the buyer, but the seller did give me his PayPal email address. If I pay Ans I don’t receive the item, would I be protected?

Personally I wouldn't buy anything from social media as its full of China tat.
However protection depends on many factors all listed in Paypals buyer protection policy for you to read so you can risk assess your transactions.
Legal (bottom right of Paypals pages) > user agreement > buyer protection.
Advice is voluntary.
Kudos / Solution appreciated.

No if they can't zelle or do marketplace then they are scamming u. 100% steer clear of PayPal altogether. Bad results 80% too many fake PayPal sites that email and u think its actually paypal..like this site. Total phishing site. I suggest u remove ur banking info immediately
