Buying used goods to collect

If I pay for used goods which I won't be able to collect for a few weeks, do I have any protection if I am unable to get them because the seller isn't there?

The item is over 100 miles from me and the value doesn't make it worthwhile making a special trip. However I am travelling close to it on a holiday journey soon, so could collect it then. I'd like to pay for it now to secure it.

Unfortunately paypal does not provide buyer protection for any goods personally delivered or collected.
