This is a scam, do not click any links within this email, particularly to log in to PayPal, do this via your usual method i.e. from bookmark in browser or PayPal app. You will see no payment requests have been made for the mentioned transaction of 980. 99 from BRENT [removed] for FOR A PURCHASE OF IPHONE 14 pro.

This email is NOT from PayPal.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

It is is a money request for an iPhone from someone calling themself William [removed], which I’ve already cancelled.

is there any other steps I need to take? I’ve tried to report it on the PayPal website but, frankly, it’s pathetic.

I imagine that PayPal get so many of these that they do not have the resources to respond. It is up to us predominantly to protect our own privacy and security, whist online and in general. This community and people like yourself can help by posting here to help raise awareness. These emails will likely randomly generate names and amounts. Some things to look out for are spelling errors, ALL CAPS! (something PayPal would never do), and a poor use of the English language in general.

Agreed that the community is a great place for info however...

PayPal needs to do some work here. This just isn't good enough in 2022.

There really should be at least a way (button) for us to flag a scam / fraudulent request not just 'pay' or 'cancel' for a few reasons.

  • Highlighting this info PayPal
  • This will allow them to help highlight "warning" requests and auto implement additional security checks
  • Block them

Well done community though as I had this exact situation. Reason was as the request came from PayPal (trusted) to my mobile.

Yes, fell for it this morning and thank goodness for my bank sorting it out eventually. Had a pending transaction for £1009:99, and a message within to ring a number to report fraud. Did so, and the long and short of it:- Abu Dhabi based companies trying to fleece Bank accounts of around 77,000 of what ever their currency is in 5 transactions while on phone asking me to transfer money to account connected to PayPal. Fortunately I refused each time they asked, then they cut off. Bank sent text of attempted transactions. Rang them straight away, account blocked and all pending withdrawals cancelled. They were so convincing,
