Hi there. I need some advice please. My son paid with PayPal for goods on Facebook Marketplace. The tracking is void and he has been blocked from the Seller. He has paid a substantial amount of money. How can he cancel the payment that was made yesterday though PayPal please? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you  😞

Depends how he paid?

Did he use goods/services when he would have buyer protection and could open a dispute for non receipt of item OR did he use the friends/family option thus negating his buyer protection?

Hi Kudos. Thank you for your response. It's really appreciated.

I know he didn't use Friends and Family and he has opened a dispute but the payment is complete. I'm hoping he has some sort of Buyer Protection.

The seller sent him a Royal Mail (not signed for) tracking number. The tracking number is showing delivered to Omagh in Ireland and he lives in Glasgow so he's probably posted an empty box to an address he knows there to cover himself. Royal Mail can't disclose any of the delivery details so that's a dead end.

I would like to know how to contact PayPal to say that the account is being used to scam people. I'm both angry and sad that this has happened to him and would really appreciate any advice on how I can help or advise my son on what to do so he covers all his options. I would also like to shut this scammer down.

Thanks 🙂

Sounds like one of these Social Media China company purchases?

He may well lose because of tracking so read this >>>

Paypal is just a payment processor that gives you 'some' buyer and 'some' seller protection.
So disputes for non receipt of item are mostly automated. Seller provides tracking that shows delivery = seller wins.
So then its your turn to do some work to assist Paypal in recovering your purchase price from your seller.

Firstly ring Paypal customer services and tell them that the number is fake or that the item was shown as shipped before you purchased it. With that information they may well just issue you a refund.

Secondly if they don't then... APPEAL
To submit an appeal on the dispute that was closed, PayPal asks that you obtain a detailed report from the shipper/courier (on their letterhead or some other form of official stationary) that includes the address the seller gave them for the shipment. Or one that includes a statement mentioning your address and saying the item was delivered to a different address. THEY DON'T HAVE TO SAY WHICH ADDRESS IT WAS SENT TO, JUST THAT IT WAS NOT DELIVERED TO YOUR ADDRESS.

Check tracking in below link to see where it went.
https://www.17track.net/en

When you have that, contact PayPal via phone (log on to your account and click contact at the bottom of the page, or via Facebook (send a Private Message to PayPal) or via Twitter (send a Direct Message to @AskPayPal) and say you want to appeal the denial of the dispute based on the shipper saying the item was delivered to a different address. Once it's submitted (you will be provided with directions on how to do that), the dispute will be reviewed further and a determination will be made.

You also have the option to contact your card issuer if you funded your Paypal payment that way and see if they will do a chargeback for you?

Thanks for your help. PayPal have investigated and will be refunding him so I'm pleased they realised right away that he had been scammed. Horrible that we have to encounter people like that in our every day lives.
