Transaction missing from PayPal record, refund not happening

Hi there,

Okay, so I bought an item for £81 from this site: http://www.yourblades.co.uk/aboutus.php and it sent me to the PayPal login page to pay. Did all that, money went out of my account, fine. But then the seller contacted me to tell me he didn't have the item in stock, so was refunding me the £81. Bummer, but understandable.

That was 10 days ago. I have contacted him this week via email to try and acertain what's going on, but no reply. Contacted him via the form on his website - no reply. On investigating further, there's no record of the transaction even going through my PayPal account. I've checked the history/archives going back a year, and the last record is something I bought in December 2012 (all good there).

I think I've been epically scammed, but I have no idea what to do. I've contacted Paypal about the missing transaction and am awaiting a reply, I've sent another email to the seller, but am not hopeful there. The next thing I might do is contact my bank and see what I can do there.

Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Does anyone have any advice? Can I just have a hug because I think I've lost that money and now I can't buy my fiance his birthday present because that was all I had?

I'm wondering whether you paid as a guest payer and that is why the transaction id is missing BUT that seems odd if you actually logged on to paypal during the payment process.

I would phone customer services and see if they can open a dispute for you...did you have an email receipt from paypal when you paid for the transaction???

i have received an email from ebay/paypal saying that  i have had  a full refund of £20.50 but it isn't showing up in my paypal account and i think £1.53 a minute is a lot  for a phone call.seems like paypal are charging a lot to sort out things for their customers who have to pay them when they use paypal in the 1st place.

But that surely depends on the phone tariff you have.....!!

Also the ONLY way to get a dispute going as a "guest" payer is by contacting paypal.

So that is what I advised the "owner" of the thread to do.

Hi, sorry for late reply.

I don't think I paid as a guest, as when I hit 'checkout' on that website, it took me to the familiar PayPal screen, with the shopping cart details on the left, and log in details on the right. I logged in with my PP account, clicked the usual button, and bingo, it went through, as evidenced by the funds going from my bank account. But I still don't have any record, no email receipt from PP, nothing. I feel so stupid, as I should have checked sooner.

I've contacted PayPal via their email system, so I guess I just have to wait and see what they say, and cross my fingers. Just thought I'd come here in case anyone else had a similar situation.

Bummer.

I was advised that a dispute had been resolved in my favour. I was instructed to return the item and then to go into resolution and enter tracking number of item. Posted the item back to the seller at great expense, despite having been sold a dodgy item which I had a paid a lot of postage to receive, but there is no record of an open case. Not even any record of any transactions over last 180 despite purchasing many satisfactory items through Paypal. Help!!! Time limited in providing the tracking number or I will lose money and dodgy item!
