Refunds not happening, alarm bells ringing, PayPal not helpful on phone

Hi all,

 

I recently purchased several items using my bank account which is on my PayPal. However, due to the direct debit between my account and paypal needing to be reset It used the backup funding source and stated my bank account would be refunded.

 

That was last Friday and I have still not had the money back. Is this an issue or can it take this long, perhaps longer? I have rang PayPal and previously had been told wait 5-7 buisness days. It is now 6, knocking on 7 and I have yet to have the money. Some people on the phone have now told me that there are no refunds to come, however....the money DID leave my bank account and was in my transaction history, then vanished after the account was rejected and my accoutn balance did NOT return to what it was and I fear I am quite a lot worse off then I was but PayPal are confusing me and I have no clear idea what is going on...can someone please, please help?
